Scholarship Essay Tips
● Start early. If you give yourself more time, you will have less stress. You'll have plenty of time to give the essay your best effort.
● Be your authentic self. Show the committee who you are and what you think they want you to be. It is hard to write about someone you are not.
● Be honest. Use your own words. (NO PLAGIARISM)
● Stay focused. Take notes, write a rough draft or any type of pre-planning that will help you stay on track.
● Use proper grammar and punctuation. Put your best foot forward. Your essay should show the best of your writing.
● Write and rewrite. The first draft is usually not the one you turn in. So, give it a few days to sit. It may even help to have a trusted teacher to look over and give you feedback.

What are the required criteria for applicants for the Bellevue Scholarship? Required Criteria:
➔ U.S. Citizens or Legal Permanent Resident
➔ Students entering college in Fall of 2022
➔ Enrolled in school in Mecklenburg county (open to CMS, Charter and private schools),
➔ Minimum cumulative 2.5 gpa
➔ Seeking a first Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree
➔ Essay question: Who Am I and what’s my role in the betterment of my Community?
What zip codes are in the preference areas? ➔ Reside in one of the following zip codes: 28214, 28216, 28208, 28215, 28212, 28205, 28213, 28262, 28206
Is a student required to be a first generation and/or member of a minority ethnic group? ➔ No, however priority is given to those who are first generation college students and/or Black, Latinx, Indigenous, or person of color ➔ Also required participant of one of the MBK Alliance organizations
Does Bellevue require ACT scores? ➔ No, Bellevue University is an open enrollment campus. However, the ACT score can be used for scholarship purposes.
